Where did you learn that?

Two professors have already told you that it makes no sense. And professor Dave asked for the source that taught you that, but you claimed it was lost. First, let us read the source (sources) that you have read, then we can say something. Maybe you understood them in the wrong way!
It seems part of the regular statistics curriculum (high school level) and also shows up in critical thinking books. I forget easily and so don't have names. F = ma IS linear. Charles' law [imath]\frac{V}{T} = k[/imath] is also linear and I can say that heat causes the expansion of gases.
I also thought (rightly/wrongly, you tell) pressure "causes" a decrease in volume of gases. Anyway [imath]P \propto \frac{1}{V}[/imath]
