What you did was the opposite of factoring; you multiplied out. And actually you should simplify first: 1 - 9 = -8.

Does 1 - 9 simplify to "10"? Does the expression work out to be "m/7 - 10m/7 = -(9/7)m"? Eliz.

I wasn't looking at original: just what this guy had written down...
was giving an example, really...

-(M/7) - (1/7)(M - 9M)
= -m/7 - (-8m/7)
= -m/7 + 8m/7
= (-m + 8m) / 7
= 7m / 7
= m
