a storehouse has three kinds of stuff:cotton,floss silk,and raw silk.they take inventory of the materials and wish to cut out and make garments for the army.as for cotton ,if we use 8 rolls for six men we have a shortage of 160 rolls;if we use 9 rolls for 7 men we have a suplus of 560 rolls...we wish to know the # of men[we can clothe] and the amounts of cotton [we will use]...

-x=- 8y/6+160
x=9y/7+560
_____________
0=9y/7-8y/6+720

2.Solve the linear equation and interpret the solution

P.S. If this is easy for you dont laff plz im in 8th grade making a 68 in this class and my mom wont let me take pre-algebra again :cry:

Did they give you the equations? If not, it would be better to use variables that show what they mean.
x=men=m
y=rolls=r
multiply by the GCD (6*7)
9*6y-7*8y+7*6*720 = 0
2y=30240
y=15120 rolls
Plug that into either equation to find x

-x= -8y/6 + 160 [1]
x = 9y/7 + 560 [2]
------------------------------
0 = 9y/7 - 8y/6 + 720 [3]

Do you understand how [3] was obtained from [1] and [2] ?
If not, not much we can do for you.

If you do, then you're having problems solving [3] for y, right?
0 = 9y/7 - 8y/6 + 720 [3]
rearrange to get:
8y / 6 - 9y / 7 = 720 : did you follow that? gimme a yes/no

Thx gene that kind of just slipped my mind(the gcd thing).Yes they did give the equation.Thx for the help got it from here
