the function is
y= -|f(x)|
What would u do first? Reflect on the x-axis, or take the absolute value?
 
The absolute value IS a reflexion on the x-axis, but only for f(x) < 0. If you then reflect everything on the x-axis, the former negative parts have returned to where they were. So, you can do both simultaneously if you just ignore the negative parts, and reflect f(x) > 0 across the x-axis. Don't leave ANYTHING positive.
