I'm not sure where to post this, but i was wondering if anyone had any insight on this

-x(2)

x=2

Is it 2(2) then -?

so -4?

or is it the full 4? Or what?

May seem stupid but I'm totally stumped

--2(2) 4? or -4? -(2(2))......[/tex]

What does your parenthetical notation indicate? (Customarily, parentheses indicate multiplication, but I don't want to assume.)

What do you mean by "-?"?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what this means...? :oops:

Please reply using standard notation and complete sentences. Thank you! :D

Yes.
Look at it this way: -(x times 2) ; so -(2 times 2) = -4

If x=-2 then:
-(-2 times 2) = -(-4) = 4

Ok...look at it this way:

-x(2) means "the opposite of x, times 2"

Does this help you understand what's going on here?
