x+1/x=2*sqrt 2

Can someone help me solve:

x+1/x=2*sqrt 2 as well as 1/x - x = 4
It would help to know what you have tried. If you do not know how to start, I suggest, in both cases, multiplying both sides of the equation by x to eliminate the fractions. Now what?

You know that \(\displaystyle x\ne 0\) why?

So solve \(\displaystyle x^2-2\sqrt2 x+1=0\) HOW & WHY?.

x cannot equal zero because 1/x would be undefined.

I can't seem to factor that correctly. Should I use the quadratic formula?
