If two lines are perpendicular (and neither of the lines is horizontal or vertical), then the slopes of the lines are OPPOSITE RECIPROCALS. That is, the slopes of the two perpendicular lines will have product of -1.
If two lines, neither of which are horizontal or vertical, are perpendicular, then when you multiply their slopes, you will get -1.
