This is the problem: A 5lb bucket is lifted from the ground into the air by pulling in 20ft of rope at a constant speed. The rope weighs .08 lb/ft. The bucket starts with 2 gallons (16 lbs) of water, and leaks at a constant rate. It finishes draining just as it reaches the top. How much work was spent lifting the water alone?
Now, I guess I shouldn't worry about calculating the work taken to lift the rope, because I only need to calculate the work needed to lift the water alone. From here, I don't know where to go, or how to set up the integral.
Any help would be appreciated!
