can someone check my work please?

-1/5d-1=12

add one to both sides then multiply 5/-1 on both sides the answer being -5

I'm sorry, but your formatting is sufficiently ambiguous as to prohibit us from knowing what you mean. Please clarify if you mean one of the following:

. . . . .a) -(1/5)d - 1 = 12

. . . . .b) -1/(5d) - 1 = 12

. . . . .c) -1/(5d - 1) = 12

. . . . .d) -1/(5d-1) = 12

...or something else. Thank you.

Eliz.

How do you get (-5)(13) being equal to -5?

Please show your steps. Thank you.

Eliz.

-1/5d -1=12
-1 -1
-1/5 d=13 Ok
-5/1 x 13 = 65/-13 Not ok.
If you mean
(-1/5)*d = 13 then
d = -5/1*13 = -65

If you mean
-1/(5d) = 13 then
times 5d/13
-1/13 = 5d
d=-1/65

ok:
-1/5d -1=12
-1 -1
-1/5 d=13
-5/1 x 13 = 65/-13
65/-13= -5
Not quite, but you're getting there PAD;
after -1, you have:
-1 / 5d = 13

Now you need to multiply by 5d to get: -1 = 13 * 5d : OK?

Btw, use * for multiplication: now standard.

Edit: Yer too fast for me Gene; I assumed he meant -1 / (5d)
