I am not getting the answer correctly. The problem goes like this: A direct dialed telephone call from Tampa to NY is $3.05 for the first 3 minutes
and $.70 for each additional minute or fraction thereof. If Juans call cost him $7.95, how many minutes was the call? This is what I wrote:
$3.05+$.70m =$7.95
subtract -$3.05 form both sides that equals
$.70m = $4.90
Divide both side by.70

m = 7 I know the answer is m=10, what am I doing incorrectly

Hello, Bernadettetheboss (is that what your mom calls you?),

Your work is fine. You just have to realize what your "m" stood for. It was not the total time; it was the time after the first three minutes. You needed to add 3 to your m answer.

Or keep it simple and go this way:
time = 3 + (7.95 - 3.05)/.70 = 3 + 7 = 10
Ok Boss ?
