I am unsure how to write to following word problems:

Three times the sum of the squares of two numbers.

My answer is 3(Y+X)2

The product of the difference of two numbers and their sum.

My answer is (Y-X)(Y+X)

Could someone tell me if these are correct?

Thanks

Hello, meyerclm!

Three times the sum of the squares of two numbers.

My answer: \(\displaystyle \,3(Y\,+\,X)^2\;\) . . . no
You wrote "Three times the square of the sum of two numbers".

You want: \(\displaystyle \,3(Y^2\,+\,X^2)\)

The product of the difference of two numbers and their sum.

My answer: \(\displaystyle \,(Y\,-\,X)(Y\,+\,X)\:\) . . . right!
