How to solve: If 8 Pounds is added to 7 math books, the combined weight is 22 pounds. How much does each math book weigh?

Hello, user948123!

If 8 Pounds is added to 7 math books, the combined weight is 22 pounds.
How much does each math book weigh?

Here we go again . . .

The 7 books weigh \(\displaystyle \text{THIS}\) pounds.

If 8 pounds is added, the combined weight is 22 pounds.
. . So \(\displaystyle \text{THIS}\) must be 14 pounds.'

Assuming the books have the same weight,
. . one book weighs: .\(\displaystyle 14 \div 7 \:=\:2\text{ poinds.}\)
