First let us determine - what is that you need to find? ? Jen's age.

Define variables:

Jen's Age now = N

Jack's Age now = K

This year, your brother Jack will be two years from being twice as old as his sister, Jen

K + 2 = 2 * (N + 2)...........................................(1)

The sum of Jack's age and three times Jen's age is 66

K + 3N = 66 ..................................................(2)

Now solve for N

Thank you for your help.

The answer sheet said that Jen's age is 10. I am looking at your equations and I still can't figure out how they reached 10. I am trying to learn how to do word problems before eighth grade. Please help me if you can! :)

Please review your post again check against the problem written in the book. There is something wrong - I cannot even get whole number as answers.

That is what I thought. I Thank You very much. I must find a better source for word problems. I pulled that one from about.com. I will not go there again. Thanks again!
