Three consecutive even integers are such that the ratio of the smallest to the largest is five-sixths. Find the largest integer.

I'm a little confused here. Please help. Thank you!

1) Pick a variable for the first integer.

2) Write an expression, in terms of (1), for the next even integer.

3) Write an expression, in terms of (2), for the third even integer. Simplify.

4) Form the ratio of (1) to (3).

5) Set this equal to 5/6.

6) Solve for the variable in (1).

7) Back-solve for the value of (3).

If you get stuck, please reply showing how far you have gotten in following these steps. Thank you.

Eliz.

Hint:
the 3 integers will look like 4,6,8 ; ok?
if you let the 1st = x, then what are the 2nd and 3rd?
