Hello I'm having trouble solving and making an equation to this word problem

there are 15 fruits on the table. Ralph has two more than fruits as Roy. Roy has one less than twice fruits as Joshua. How many fruits does Roy have?

btw the answer is 5 but I'm having a problem making an equation to this word problem. how did they get the answer of 5?

First thing you should do is to "name things" uniquely. Let:

# of fruit Ralph has = H
# of fruit Roy has = Y
# of fruit Joshua has = A , then

there are 15 fruits on the table → H + Y + A = 15 .............................. (1)

(assuming all the fruits and only these fruits have been distributed among H, Y & A), and

Ralph has two more than fruits as Roy →

H = Y + 2 .............................. (2)................ and continue......
