A butcher combined 100 lbs of hamburger that cost 1.75 per pound with 40 lbs of hamburger that cost 3.50 per pound. Find the selling price of the hamburger mixture.

100*1.75=$175
40*3.50= $140

175+140=$315

Ok...let's attach some meaning to your numbers.

100 lb of hamburger that costs $1.75 a pound has a value of $175
40 lb of hamburger that costs $3.50 a pound has a value of $140

The total value of the meat is $175 + $140, or $315

You have 100 lb + 40 lb of meat, or 140 lb.

If the value of 140 lb of meat is $315, how would you find the value of ONE pound?

Does this problem make sense to you? not to me?

Selling price can be anything - 0 to infinity - whatever the market will bear (and the butcher is willing to leave with)!!

a school principal estimates that no more than 6% of this years senior class will graduate with honors. there are 350 students how many will graduate this year?
