The Camping trip costs $25.00 per student. If there are 146 students going on the trip, how much money will
the fifth-grade class need in all?

When I'm not sure, I try things.

1 student going requires 1 * 25 = 25 dollars
2 students going require 2 * 25 = 50 dollars
3 students going require 3 * 25 = 75 dollars

Here's another way of looking at the same thing (because we can think of multiplication as a shortcut for repeated addition).

1 student going requires 25 = 25 dollars
2 students going require 25 + 25 = 50 dollars
3 students going require 25 + 25 + 25 = 75 dollars
