Let x = number of games lost
Then, because we know the team WON 4 times as many games as they lost,
let 4x = number of games won

We know the team played a total of 40 games.

games lost + games won = total games
x + 4x = 40

Now you have an equation you can solve for x. Remember that the question asks for the number of games WON...that's 4x.
