Team A and Team B played an extra long, high-scoring game of football. If 6 of the goals scored by Team B were instead scored by team A, the game would have been tied. But if 6 of the goals scored by Team A were instead scored by Team B , Team B would have 4 times as many goals as Team A. How many goals did Team B score in this game?

I stink at word problems please help, thank you all

a = goals by team A, b = goals by team B

> If 6 of the goals scored by Team B were instead scored by team A, the game would have been tied.
a + 6 = b - 6

> But if 6 of the goals scored by Team A were instead scored by Team B ,
> Team B would have 4 times as many goals as Team A.
4(a - 6) = b + 6

You got 2 equations for 2 unknowns: wrap it up!

I tried this myself. I am going into 8th grade and want to be a heads up on everyone. So I want to do math all summer. I came up with:
TEAM A = 14
TEAM B = 26
IS THIS CORRECT ?

Correct

You can check yourself by feeding these numbers back into the original equations.
