wire is commonly made by putting hot metal through a hole in a plate. What length of wire of diameter 1mm can be made from 1cm cube of metal?". The answer in the textbook is "about 127cm". Can anybody tell me what steps to take? I cannot see a way of getting 127cm from 1mm.

What steps have you taken in attempting this exercise? You converted "1 cm" into millimeters, converted the volume (1cm by 1 cm by 1 cm) into cubic millimeters, divided the volume by the given cross-sectional area to get the length, converted the result from millimeters to centimeters, and... then what?

Please be complete. Thank you! ;)

A "wire" is a long cylinder. Do you know the formula for the volume of a cylinder? Unlike Stapel, I would NOT convert to mm, I would leave everything in cm. 1 mm is .1 cm. So how long must a cylinder with diameter .1 cm be in order to have volume 1 cm3.?
