So the questions are as follows:


Matthew and his brother Shawn played swimming-pool-basketball. Each basket was worth 3 points. Matthew scored 9 points.
Shawn scored 6 points. What is the total number of baskets made during this game?


How is the answer 5? this was on the answer key can you please explain how that is?


also can you please show clearly how we got this answer in the image, please be very specific for example the small numbers where are they from? Each basket was worth 3 points. Mathew scored 9 points so he made 9/3= 3 baskets Shawn scored 6 points so he made 6/3= 2 baskets. That is a total of 3+ 2= 5 baskets.

The multiplications you have are 537.95 times 9.2 and 345.91 times 3.7.

The number directly beneath the line under 537.95 and 9.2 is 537.95 times the "2"
2 times 5 is 10 so you write down the 0 and "carry" the 1 (that's the little "1" in red above the 0).
2 times 9 is 18 and the 1 that was carried adds to make that 19. Write down the 9 and "carry" the 1.

Now we multiply by the "9" in 9.2. 9 times 5 is 45. Write down the 5 and "carry" the 4. (That is the 4 in red below the 9). Note that the 5 is one place over to the left. That is because the 9 in 9.2 is in the "tens" place.
9 times 9 is 81. The carried 4 adds to give 85. Write down the 5 and "carry" the 8.
9 times 7 is 63. The carried 8 adds to give 71. Write down the 1 and "carry" the 7.
9 times 3 is 27. The carried 7 adds to give 34. Write down the 4 and "carry" the 3.
9 times 5 is 45. The carried 3 adds to give 48. Since this is the last digit, write down 48.
That is 484155. Because the 9 is in the tens place that is actually 4841550 and the "," in the third place- 4841,550.

Finally add the two, 107,590+ 4841,550.

9+ 5= 14 so we write down the 4 and "carry" the 1
5+ 5= 10 and the carried 1 makes 11. Write down the 1 and "carry" the 1.
1+ 7= 8 and the carried 1 makes 9. Write down the 9. There is no "carry".
0+ 4= 4. Write down the 4. There is no "carry".
8+ 1= 9. Write down the 9. There is no "carry".
