I have to do an experiment for my class, we are taking 2 groups of different people and one group will listen to rap and the other classical while memorizing and then recalling the same words and numbers.

Would the independent variables be gender and groups and the dependent variable be recall??

Thanks.

Generally, independent variables are types of variables whose values (intervals) you can choose (gender and group).

like time - you can choose to take data (say temperature) at 1 minute, 2 minute, 3 minute, etc.

Dependant variable is of course the on whose value you do not have too much control (amount of recall).

It also depends on what do you want to calculate -

that is do you want to calculate length at different times ?

- if yes then your dependent variable should be length and the independent is time (L = f(t))
