Plot several points , and deduce the respresentation .

Zero can't be , the domain is R*.

Helolo, tamiatha!

I would like to see your teacher's answer . . . and his/her explanation.

\(\displaystyle \text{identify the function represented by: }\: y\:=\:\frac{3}{x}\)

My answer: hyperbola

My teacher says i am wrong. .? ?

The instruction "Identify the function" is rather vague . . . What does it mean?

Are we to describe the relationship between \(\displaystyle x\) and \(\displaystyle y\) ?
. . Is this an essay question?
If so, we could say: "\(\displaystyle y\) is inversely proportional to \(\displaystyle x\)."

If we are to identity the graph of the equation, your answer is correct.

I think you mean 3/0 can't be.

I know that 0 can be, since I see it all around me every day. :p

Is R* standard notation for R\{0} ?

I'm not sure that I've seen the notation R* before.

R* : R star : Every Real Number except 0 :

You would have been exactly correct:

If the question had asked:

identify the graph, represented by the function represented by y=3/x

and your answer was:

rectangular hyperbola

Aside from that I agree with Soroban regarding vagueness of the question.
