Okay, this is a math challenge that has been kicking my butt. The objective is to determine the weighted contribution of each value towards the result in the formula below. What I mean by "weighted contribution" is, say there is a formula A * B * C = D. Each variable, A, B, C, has a 1/3 weighted contribution towards the value of D. On the other hand the formula A + B + C = D, the weighted contribution of variable A is obviously A/D. Make sense? So, here is the formula: = ( ( 4992/131*0.32*0.83 )+( 125*0.21 ) )*0.36 *0.92*1*( 1+( 8/( ( ( 4992/131*0.32*0.83 )+( 125*0.21 ) )*0.36 *0.92 ) ) )*( 1-0.1 )*3394 To solve the weighted contributions of each value focus is placed upon the RELATIONSHIP between the values, not the actual values themselves. The sum of all weighted contributions should equal 1. It turns out the formula can be broken up into 7 sections (see colored areas in formula). Each section has a total weighted contribution of 1/7. I've solved 6 out of the 7 sections. The butt-kicking section is ( 1+( 8/( ( ( 4992/131*0.32*0.83 )+( 125*0.21 ) )*0.36 *0.92 ) ) . In addition to asking if anyone can solve the weighted contribution math challenge do you think a program like SPSS or Mathematica could solve it? Thank you! Ron |
