Suppose there are 3 different types of instruments at Sam Ash. There are 3 classical guitars, 3 electric guitars and 3 pianos. How many ways are there to choose one of the instruments?

A friend simply told me to add all 3 classical guitars, 3 electric guitar, and 3 pianos to find the different ways to choose an instrument.

So, 3 + 3 + 3 = 9 ways to choose an instrument at San Ash.
