I do not know how to figure these out.

w-5/w-8-w+1/w+8+w-56/w^2-64

(3x^2-2xy+y^2)+(-7x^2-3xy-y^2)+(x^2+xy-3y^2)

Does the above look like

\(\displaystyle w \, - \, \frac{5}{w} \, - \, 8 \, - \, w \, + \, \frac{1}{w} \, + \, 8 \, + \, w \, - \, \frac{56}{w^2} \, - \, 64\)

I can almost it doesn't! - but that is what you wrote according to standard hierchy of operations.

So use parentheses to group operations - and make the problem understandable.

Please tell us what you are supposed to do with that mathematical expression.

Then, please share with us your work/thoughts so that we know where to begin to help you.

(3x^2-2xy+y^2)+(-7x^2-3xy-y^2)+(x^2+xy-3y^2)

Again what are you supposed to do? - show some work.

The / means it is a fraction is what I have been taught one goes on top of the other.

Of course it does.

But remember, PEMDAS (multiplication/division before addition/subtraction) - so if you need to do subtraction first (before division) you need to put those in parentheses (P).
