good afternoon,

I have a problem. I am trying to figure out the volume of a solid, see attached image. The base is 36 SF and the top is 49SF, the height is 58ft. The base and the top are both right triangles with the base a=6 b=6 and the top a=7 b=7. Can anyone help me with a formula to figure volume? and what type of solid is this?

thanks!

Well, if you have an isosceles right triangle with equal sides = 6, then it's area = 6*6/2 = 18SF.
Where does your 36SF some from?

the base a=6 b=6 <<< How is the area then 36 - shouldn't it be 18?

and the top a=7 b=7. <<< and similarly this one 24.5 ?

Can anyone help me with a formula to figure volume? and what type of solid is this?

If the side joining the triangles - at the right angles - is normal to the triangles, then you can use simple integration to find the volume.

Re: volumn of a solid

you both are correct, I did not divide by 2, that was my intention.. .. you mention simple integretion, you have to forgive me, I have been away from math for some time. Could you give a formula example?

thank you!

Re: volumn of a solid

Well, the triangles' area are of no importance.
leaving the equal sides at 6 and 7, then midway is 6.5,
so volume = 6.5(6.5)(58) / 2 = 1225.25 ... I think.
