That depends on the subject matter. In engineering, most of the problems will use degrees as measure of angle. The trend is to move away from using degrees.

Or carpentry or plumbing. The idea that we teach math so that everyone can do calculus strikes me as completely wrong. That depends on the subject matter. In engineering, most of the problems will use degrees as measure of angle.
That was one of the greatest fights I had in academies. The engineers just could accept that most calculus textbooks no longer use degrees nor do they use the \(\ln(x)\) notation. So they began teaching their on calculus course. Well that lasted until the next accreditation visit. The school got a demerit because of that. As far as I know, they still do like it.That depends on the subject matter. In engineering, most of the problems will use degrees as measure of angle.
Add to that navigation - Naval, Aerial and Space. Oh yes... electricians, masons, anybody who get their hands dirty to make a living.....Or carpentry or plumbing. The idea that we teach math so that everyone can do calculus strikes me as completely wrong.
Yes, but to accreditation organizations, such people are Untermenchen and can be disregarded.Add to that navigation - Naval, Aerial and Space. Oh yes... electricians, masons, anybody who get their hands dirty to make a living.....
Thanks for reminding me that I have to go swap out the alternator in my car and get my hands dirty. I wish instructors made more money so they can ask someone else to do this type of work for them.Add to that navigation - Naval, Aerial and Space. Mathematicians getting their hands dirty - I wish I could see that!!Thanks for reminding me that I have to go swap out the alternator in my car and get my hands dirty. I wish instructors made more money so they can ask someone else to do this type of work for them.
