I think a) is very obvious. The only time you add thing#1 and thing#2, and you get thing#1, is when thing#2 is 0.

Okay. So, what have you tried? You did read the guidelines by now, right?

Have you tried sketching a graph of both sides of each equation (for various values of k)?
