In my Trigonometry work (i am homeschooled), i have a few questions in which involve me turning a decimal, e.g. 0.45 into degrees and minutes.
The answer is 26 degrees and 45 minutes.
But i have no idea how to get that from 0.45!

Can anyone help me out?
And solve how to turn decimals into degrees and minutes?

How many radians are equal to how many degrees? :wink:

Presumably the 0.45 is in radians? To convert radians to degrees, you multiply by \(\displaystyle 180/\pi\approx 57.29578\). If you want degrees and minutes, you multiply the fractional part of the degree by 60.

For the example of 0.45 radians, you get \(\displaystyle 0.45\times180/\pi=25.7831...\) degrees. The fractional part is 0.7831, and \(\displaystyle 0.7831\times60\approx46.98\). So 0.45 radians is approximately 25 degrees and 47 minutes.

You'll notice that's different from the answer given above. Don't ask me what went wrong! :?: :!:

In my Trigonometry work (i am homeschooled), i have a few questions in which involve me turning a decimal, (your text-book should have example problems - I am going to give you some examples:)

You need to remember:

1 radian = 57.30 degrees ( written as 57.30°)

1° = 60 minutes ( written 60')

1'(minute) = 60 seconds (written 60")

Convert 0.46 radians into degrees, minutes and seconds.

0.60radian = (0.60*57.30)° = 34.38°
.

We will need to attack the fraction part (0.38) only.

0.38° = (0.38 * 60)' = 22.8'
(still fraction left - 0.8 - convert it to seconds next)

0.8' = (0.8 * 60)" = 48"

then

0.60 radian = 34°22'48"............................done

follow the exact same method for your problem.

e.g. 0.45 into degrees and minutes.
The answer is 26 degrees and 45 minutes.
But i have no idea how to get that from 0.45!

Can anyone help me out?

Oh wow!
Thankyou so much everyone for replying!
I get it now!
Gee you guys are so smart!
Thankyou heaps!
And Opalq...maybe in my work they rounded it off to the nearest 5min.
It didn't say that, but i think maybe that's what they did, and that is why your answer seemed incorrect.

Thanks a lot guys :D
