A Ferris wheel of diameter 18 m completes a full revolution every 2 minutes. If passengers board the est carat a height of 3 m above the ground, determine the sinusoidal function that models the height, h, in meters, of the car relative to the ground as a function of the time, t, in seconds.

1) Sketch one cycle of a graph that represents the height of the car, as a function of time.

2) Determine an equation that describes your sketch. Be sure to include ALL important information.

3) Determine at what time(s) the height of the car above ground is 7 m

-----

I have not attempted anything. I am stuck.

Did you complete the task you started in:

Did you start a sketch - that is the starting point of this assignment.

Make table with columns "time" and "height" - time recorded for at every 30 sec interval.

Please show us what you have tried and exactly where you are stuck.

Please follow the rules of posting in this forum, as enunciated at:

Please share your work/thoughts about this assignment.

Suppose the center of the ferris wheel is level with the ground (there is a big hole just below the ferris wheel so that it can go below ground level. Can you describe path of a cart on the ferris wheel?

Now follow Subhotosh suggestions:

Ok so I drew out a sketch and graphed it. Now when I create the equation, I get something that looks correct, but when I put it into desmos to check, it is literally just a block.

I identified a = 9, k = 120, d = 0, c = 3. so h(t) = -9cos(120t)+3.

Does that look right?
