please help......

In the town of Gallows anyone who lies is hanged. One day a stranger came into town. He was asked why he came. What did the stranger reply so the town could not decide whether to hang him or let him go free?

Problem of the Week I need help with. Thanks! :D

How about "You will hang me!" If they don't hang him, he lied and must be hanged. If they do hang him, he wasn't lieing and shouldn't have been hung.

This is an old - old - very old logic (philosophical) puzzle. There is a Greek guy's name attached to it - I can't remember.

This is a problem of self-reference.

Go to google - and search around...

Hmmm...don't think so, Soroban and SK:
he answered the question: why did you come to this town?

So it has to be something different from "ye olde answer",
like "I came to repair your gallows" or something similar....

If he does not get hanged - he is lying - he should be hanged.

If he gets hanged - he is telling the truth - he should be let go.

This is a version of "Epimenides' paradox"

So it has to be something different from "ye olde answer",
like "I came to repair your gallows" or something similar....
