Bob drives @ a steady speed - 110 mph. 12 mins ago, he was 5 times as far from his destination as half the distance he had already travelled. The journey should take 3 hours. How far has he got to go ? Thanks.

The answer is 136 miles ? I drew a diagram. I called the line segment a b . c is a point representing between ab and represents where Bob was 12 mins ago. I called the distance ac - X , and the distance cb 300-x. Nearly there ?

To me, the problem statement is very unclear. My interpretation:

a ****** d ******* c *********************************************b

We need to calculate the distance cb. 12 minutes ago he was at d.

distance ab = 110 * 3 = 330 miles

distance cd = 12/60 * 110 = 22 miles

Let

ad = x →

5 * [1/2 * x] = (330-x) ← he was 5 times as far from his destination as half the distance he had already traveled

x = ?

cb = db - dc = (330 - x) - 22

I am NOT getting it (136) ......
