Bridges often have "expansion joints" i.e. small gaps in the road between one bridge section and the next so that the bridge will have room to expand in hot weather. Suppose that a bridge has a gap of 1.3 centimeters when the temp is 22 degrees Celsius and that gap narrows to 9 centimeters when the temps warm to 30 degrees Celsius.

1. id the dependent an independent variables

2. What is the linear function ?

3. What is the slope and its meaning in context o the problem

4. what would the gap width be at 35 degrees C and at -10 degrees C ?

5. determine the g- intercept and its meaning

6. if the gap width is 2 centimeters what is the temp ?

7. would the temp ever be likely to get high enough to close the gap ?

You have been given two data points. What are they?

1. id the dependent an independent variables
I'm sorry, but this does not make sense.

2. What is the linear function ?
What did you get when you plugged the two points into the slope formula? You picked one of the given points, and plugged that point and the slope you got into one of the straight-line equations, and... then what? Where are you stuck?

3. What is the slope and its meaning in context o the problem
How did you interpret the slope in the given context?

4. what would the gap width be at 35 degrees C and at -10 degrees C ?
When you plugged the given values into the model you created in (2), what did you get?

5. determine the g- intercept and its meaning
What have you tried? Where are you stuck?

Please be complete. Thank you! ;)
