Let the bigger number by x Then the smaller number by y. We know: The sum of 2 numbers is 26 So that means: x + y = 26 The difference between them is 42. So this means: x - y = 42 Which means you have the system: x - y = 42 x + y = 26 Solve for x and y with the method you've learned.
