Tangent Vector of vector equation vs Derivitive of Parametric Equation

Hi...

are these essentially the same thing?

For a given point.......If I find the Tangent Vector of a vector equation,and then converted the original vector equation into to a parametric equation to find the derivative
will the answer be the same?

I'm turning this one back to you. Why would they be different?

If your trajectory to hit Mars with an orbital satellite is in parametric form, will you miss Mars if you don't use the parametric form?
