Here's the question:

Find the points on the graph of the function : (x+1)/(x-1) where the tangent line(s) to the graph are parallel to the line x + 2y = 6.

What I've done so far is realize that the line x + 2y = 6 is the slope where the points of the tangent lines are on the function.

Solve your standard line equation for y. That will give you y=mx+b

The slope is m.

Now, find the derivative of your function, set to m and solve for x.

If \(\displaystyle f(x) = \frac{{x + 1}}{{x - 1}}\) find where \(\displaystyle f'(x) = \frac{-1}{2}\)
