A fort contains a granary, that has 1000 tons of grain. The fort is under a siege from an enemy army that has blocked off all the supply routes. The army in the fort has three kinds of soldiers: Sepoys = 2,00,000. Mantris = 1,00,000 , Footies = 1,00,000 .

100 Sepoys can hold 5% of the enemy for one month. 100 Mantris can hold 10% of the enemy for 15 days. 50 Footies can hold 5% of the enemy for one month.
A sepoy eats 1 kg of food per month, a Mantri eats 0.5 kg of food per month and a footie eats 3 kg of food. (Assume 1 ton = 1000 kg). The king has to make some decisions based on the longest possible resistance that can be offered to the enemy. If a king selects a soldier, he will have to feed him for the entire period of the resistance. The king is not obliged to feed a soldier not selected for the resistance.

(Assume that the entire food allocated to a particular soldier for the estimated length of the resistance is redistributed into the king’s palace in case a soldier dies and is not available for the other soldiers.)

If the king wants to maximise the time for which his resistance holds up, he should (a) select all mantris (b) select all footies (c) select all sepoys (d) none of these

My logic

100 alone sepoys a month --> 5%
2000 sepoys alone in a month--> can hold 100% of the enemy

Similarly , 1000 footies alone can hold 100% of enemy & 500 mantris can hold 100% of enemy .

in a month maximum no of mantris with no sepoys & no footie in ally fighting can be 500 .
right ?

Food intake:

2000 sepoys a month will intake total 2000kg of food , 500 mantris a month will intake total 250 kg , 1000 footies a month will intake 3000kg .

Now , there are total 1lakh mantris and if 500 mantris Alone can hold of 100 % enemy every month THEN 1 lakh mantris alone can hold of 100 % enemy for 200 months with every new month a set of new 500 mantris deployed + those who are alive from last battle .

So king should select all mantris to maximise the time for which his resistance holds up.

This problem is remarkably uninteresting to me. It's ridiculously complicated and unrealistic. In particular, I'm not sure exactly what it means to say, "100 Sepoys can hold 5% of the enemy for one month." Do they all die after that month, and more who have been waiting (but being fed) take their place? I don't care to put any effort into figuring it out.

I found it online and saw that this is the first of ten questions about the situation. Why not just continue on to the other parts, rather than wait forever for someone to confirm your thinking.

Or why not move on to another problem that might be more meaningful?
