Talia's Tallitot. Talia plans to make a tallitot (prayer shawls) and matching kipot (prayer hats) from a bolt of material. The fabric she plans to use is 250 yards long. She will need 2 yards of material for each tallit (prayer shawls) and 1/6 of a yard for each kipah (prayer hat). She also plans to put tzitzit(fringes) on the tallit and will need 1 yard of cord for each tallit. The kipot will not have any friges. She has 100 yards of cord to use for the tzitzit.
1. Write two equations to use to solve for how many kipot and tallitot she can make from the supplies on hand. Let t equal the number of tallitot made and k equal the number of kipot made.

2. Try to solve this system of equations. If you get a solution, state what it is. If not describe what your result means.

I am needing help with this word problem can anybody help me out pleaseeeeeee!!!!

Makes my blood boil when I see teachers "write up" something
like that in order to teach equations to a student...

Well, the second is because she has 100 yards of cord and use 1 yard per tzitzit so she can make upto 100 of them. That puts a limit on the number of tallitots she can make.
The first is because she has 250 yards of cloth and needs 2 yards per tallitot and 1/6th yard per kipot.
They are less than or equal 'cause she doesn't have to use up all the materials, though she can.

Gene, yes it does help and I do appreciate you taking out the time in helping me understand. I must say to be out of school so long (since 82) I only learn just basic math never got into the algebra back then. I also want to state that I think this is a fine math help website and I recommended this site to some of my classmates and other parents who children or just them who is going to college like me at a late start in life that this website is very helpful. Thank you so much and for all the others who challenge these many math problems to assist others. :)
