Solve each problem using system of equations.
At an ice cream parlor, ice cream cones cost $1.10 and sudaes cost $2.35. One day, the receipts for a total of 172 cones and sundaes were $294.20. How many cones were sold?
Your first job is to name things. In other words, select variables that you will be able to use to set up an equation or equations. In so doing, in this problem, you need to distinguish between the
cost of the cones and the sundaes and
number of cones and sundaes.
If you choose to name the number of cones "c" then you know that the total cost for all the cones is "1.10c". My advice is to take the time to write your "names" down completely. For instance,
Let x represent the number of cones.
Let y represent the number of sundaes.
Therefore, 1.10x is the total cost of the cones
and 2.35y is the total cost of the sundaes.
Now, find some statements in the stated problem that you can use to write a couple of equations. Good luck.
P.S. It is not a good idea to limit yourself to one way of learning as you state "the only way i can learn is" etc. Everybody can learn to learn in more that one way. I'm assuming you are mature enough to do the same.
