I have the following problem;
"Given that (-3) is a root of the x^3 + 5x^2 +9x + 9 = 0, find all roots of this equation and Express any non-real roots in the form a+bi."
Now I've gotten thorough the synthetic divison part correctly I hope with the following answer;
X^2 + 2X + 3 = 0.

However using the quadratic formula to factor this only gives me the following;
-1+/- 2i

With the correct answer being
" -1 +/- 5i"
I'm not sure where I went wrong and cannot seem to find the error in my syn division as the remainder turned out 0

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it

Hello, and welcome to FMH! :)

You did everything correctly (don't change to uppercase x's though)...you've been given the wrong "correct" roots. ;)
