I think I have this equation representation of a word problem set up correctly but I can't get the answer.

Question:

The sum of the squares of two consecutive even integers is 1252, what are the integers?

Equation:

1252 = x^2 + (x+2)^2
1252 = 2x^2 + 4x + 4
626 = x^2 + 2x + 2
0 = x^2 + 2x - 624
-2 +- sqrt(4+2496)/2
-2 +- sqrt(2500)/2
-2 +- 25 = -27 or 23

Thanks for any help,

Jason

(-2 +- sqrt(2500))/2

Usual mistake of not using enough parentheses. Don't do it again! :)
