Where are my smart friends?? I had $3.00. My Mom gave $10.00. My Dad gave $30.00. My Aunt and Uncle gave me $100.00. I had another $7.00. How much did I have? I will TRY delete the right answers. I don't believe their is a proper solution. my mine was 3-3(had) 10+30+100-7 (had 7 more)=133 but the wording is the "tricky part" my contention was there is no definitive answer. had to start w/ 0, then had $3 had post tense (0+3-3)=0; M(10), D(30) AU(100 or 200)? Had another 7 (x-7) my solution was 3-3+10+30+100=140-7 (had 7 more) = 133 or it could be had 3+7=10 or had = - gave = + -3+10+30+100-7=130 but that applies an imaginary number of -3 to a physical problem
Stupid question but like i was told at a young age the only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

My first alarm is mom and dad. The "gave", but to whom? It isn't stated.
My second alarm was the claim "I had". Clearly, the first "I had" was simply incorrect, so is there anywhere to start finding a solution? I think not.
Third alarm is that -3 is NOT an "Imaginary" number.
Are you SURE it's a "physical problem" with all that mumbo-jumbo? I'm not sure. It's just a mess and you cannot establish a credible range for its solution. Thus, why not "-3".

Thank you I said nearly the same thing I didn't really mean "tricky" as in whoa just they way it's interpreted -3 really isn't a credible in this context mathematically yes but the question since it's dealing with real numbers I really don't want to confuse the knuckle draggers that are patting themselves on the back for passing ALG as Senior in HS. I've seen this or similar posted on numerous sites its all contextual there is no single solution, I agree why not 0 the question the give and me vs I makes this a GFY question. I think the only proper solution is a metaphysical one. A= Do we ever really have or possess anything? Oldest trick in the book answer a nonsense question with a question. You're still missing the point that "-3" is a REAL NUMBER. It's just a Negative Integer.
You also seem to be missing the point that there is NO solution if there in NO sense to be made of the problem statement.
