Hey guys!
Im stuck on one of my assignment question, it goes like this:

The curve
gif.latex

passes through the point (1,1) and the gradient at that point is 3/5.

Calculate the values of the constants a and b.

I think this question should be still fairly easy but i just cant seem to get the answer!

This is my working anyways:

gif.latex

gif.latex

Since it is given that the gradient is 3/5,

gif.latex

gif.latex

Sub x=1 at point (1,1)
gif.latex

then im not so sure anymore.

thank you very much for the help! :D

This is a system of two equations.

You know that:

y = 1

x = 1

dy/dx = 3/5

Make those substitutions, and the system becomes:

1 = a/(b+2)

3/5 = -ab/(b+2)^2

You could now solve the first equation for a and then substitute the result for a in the second equation. This will give an equation in b only, for which you may solve.
