Howdy all,

Currently doing a practice test for my upcoming assignment and have flat out hit the wall on the following!! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated:

1) Subtract the fractions and simplify: (x+4)/(x+5)(x+9) - (x+4)/(x+9)
2) 4/t + 1/2t + 1/2+t
3) find p in terms of the other unknowns 2p+4s+pt = q-s
4) Solve 6/A^2-1 = 1/a+1 - 1/a-1
5) The area of a rectangular vegetable garden is 384 square metres, if its length is 20m more than its width, what are the dimensions.

Subtract the fractions

(x+4)/[(x+5)(x+9)] - (x+4)/(x+9)

The red grouping symbols are my guess.

Do you know how to do arithmetic with fractions? Same thing here, basically. You need a common denominator. Ring any bells?

Next, please do not post lists of exercises with no questions asked of your own.

We need to see some efforts; you need to explain where you're stuck.

Check out our FORUM GUIDELINES before posting again.

Cheers

Howdy all,

1) Subtract the fractions and simplify: (x+4)/(x+5)(x+9) - (x+4)/(x+9)
2) 4/t + 1/2t + 1/2+t

Is that last fraction 1/(2+t)?

3) find p in terms of the other unknowns 2p+4s+pt = q-s
4) Solve 6/A^2-1 = 1/a+1 - 1/a-1
Is that supposed to be 6/(a^2- 1)= 1/(a+1)- 1/(a-1)??

5) The area of a rectangular vegetable garden is 384 square metres, if its length is 20m more than its width, what are the dimensions.
One thing that concerns me is that you titled this "Struggling with factoring" when only (4) requires any factoring at all. If you really have no idea what to do with any of these, you need far more help than the hints or pointers we can give. Talk to your teacher about this.

2) 4/t + > > > 1/2t < < < + 1/2+t

And, I would ask if this is supposed to be 1/(2t)?

As it was given, it is equal to (1/2)t.

Edit:

Subhotosh Khan, HallsofIvy already asked about what you asked about in post # 3.

And I would ask if that is supposed to be:

\(\displaystyle \dfrac{1}{2+t}\) ... should be written as 1/(2+t)

or

\(\displaystyle \dfrac{1}{2} \ + \ t\) ... as written
