My comment was, of course, tongue in cheek; I imagine that the official rules of cryptics (wherever that is legislated) allow colloquial usages.

In fact, I suspect that the "rules", like grammar, are not really dictated top-down, but arise from the practitioners, and can be whatever feels right to you (to a point).
