Solve the equation for x and give exact answers:
pi^2*x^2 - e^2 = 3e^2
Hello! I'm very confused about this equation. Here is my work thus far:
pi^2*x^2 - e^2 / pi^2 = 3e^2 / pi^2
x^2 - e^2 = 3e^2 / pi^2
(x - e)^2 = 3e^2 / pi^2
sqrt(x - e)^2 = sqrt(3e^2) / sqrt(pi^2)
x - e = sqrt(3e^2) / pi
x = (sqrt(3e^2) / pi) + e
My professor doesn't require that the answer has to be simplified for this problem.
When I plug x in with the help of my trusty calculator, however, I'm not getting the right answer. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you all very much for you help in advance.
