1. solve x^2 + 64 =0 by the square root property
if I first bring the 64 to the other side and get x^2 = -64 and then I square both sides is my answer x= 8i?

2. Solve (x+5)^2 - 6 = 0 by the square root property.

My answer is x = -5 +- the square root of 6

Re: square root properties

Hello, haliebre!

You're doing fine . . .

1. Solve \(\displaystyle x^2\,+\,64\:=\:0\) by the square root property

if I first bring the 64 to the other side and get \(\displaystyle x^2\,=\,-64\)
and then I square root both sides, is my answer \(\displaystyle x\,=\,8i\) ?
Almost . . . it's \(\displaystyle x\,=\,\)±\(\displaystyle 8i\)

2. Solve \(\displaystyle (x\,+\,5)^2\,-\,6\:=\:0\) by the square root property.

My answer is: \(\displaystyle \,x\:=\:-5\,\pm\,sqrt{6}\;\;\) . . . Right!
