I would like help on this problem. We have the question and the answer but not an explanation.
Sally paints a house in 4 hours. Joel paints the same house in 6 hours. If they paint the same house together, how long will it take?
me and 3 others say say it's 5 hours. The answer is 2.5 hours.....HELP PLEASE!!

Sally ALONE takes 4 hours; with any help, it'll take less than 4 hours, right?!

In ONE hour, what fraction of house does Sally (alone) paint?

In ONE hour, what fraction of house does Joel (alone) paint?

In ONE hour, what fraction of house does Sally + Joel (together) paint?

Now continue....
 
or 2.4 hrs - not 2.5 hrs as claimed in the original post.
