I've been working on this problem for 3 days, and I'm pretty frustrated with it. (A candy store mixed green and red jelly beans in a barrel. The barrel contains 42 pounds of the mixture. If there are 3 times as many pounds of the green jelly beans as the red jelly beans, find the number of pounds of greeen jelly beans and the number of red jelly beans in the barrel.) I'm suppose to solve this using the subtitution or the addition method. I don't see a 2nd equation. The only equation I can come up with is 3x + y =42. I'm letting x represent the green jelly beans and y represent the red jelly beans. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
